Miklat ("the App") is a community-driven application that helps locate public shelters in Israel. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.
Information We Collect
- Location data: Used to show shelters near you. Your location is accessed only while the app is in use and is never stored on our servers.
- Account information: If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your email address and name (if provided). This is used solely for authentication.
- User contributions: Shelter data you submit (address, location, capacity, notes) is stored in our database and shared publicly with all users.
- Votes and verifications: Your shelter verifications and status reports are stored with your user ID to prevent duplicate submissions.
Information We Do Not Collect
- We do not track your movements or store location history.
- We do not sell or share personal data with third parties.
- We do not display advertisements.
- We do not use analytics or tracking SDKs.
How We Use Your Information
Your information is used exclusively to provide app functionality:
- Displaying shelters near your location
- Authenticating your account for contributions
- Attributing shelter data to verified users
- Preventing abuse (duplicate votes, banned accounts)
Data Storage and Security
Data is stored on Supabase (hosted on AWS infrastructure) with row-level security policies that restrict data access. Authentication tokens are stored securely on your device using the platform's secure storage (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore). All network communication uses HTTPS encryption.
Third-Party Services
- Mapbox: Provides map tiles and address search (geocoding). Subject to Mapbox's privacy policy.
- Supabase: Backend infrastructure for data storage and authentication. Subject to Supabase's privacy policy.
- Apple / Google: Authentication providers. Subject to their respective privacy policies.
Data Retention
Account information is retained as long as your account exists. Shelter contributions are retained indefinitely to maintain the community database. You may request deletion of your account and personal data at any time.
Data Deletion
You can request deletion of your account and all associated personal data by contacting us at the email address below. Upon request, we will delete your account information and anonymize your contributions within 30 days.
Children's Privacy
Miklat is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
